I participated in the II Meeting of the Brazilian Society for Evolutionary Biology that took place 15-17 July 2026 at UFMG in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil (where I currently live). It was a great opportunity to integrate back into the Brazilian community, meet old friends and initiate new collaborations.
The organization was impeccable, innovative and humane. You could feel they deeply care about the meeting and the society. They did a fantastic job in diversifying the selection of contributed talks to people from different institutions and career levels.
I presented a poster about integrating genetics and tissue mechanics to understand the evolution of morphogenesis (essentially the cephalic furrow work) and was delighted that it won 1st place in the prize “Open and Reproducible Science” awarded by the Brazilian Reproducibility Network and the Brazilian Society of Evolutionary Biology :)
