I went to the 10th Meeting of the European Society for Evolutionary Developmental Biology that took place in Glasgow, Scotland (9-12 June 2026). I’ve been to EED’s meetings since 2012, and this was the first after starting my position in Brazil. It was great to catch up with everyone again and meet several people that I had only known through their papers. I have the impression that this was the most diverse EED I have been to, both in terms of talks and people from different scientific backgrounds (even though there were many single-cell talks).
Together with my colleagues Anaïs Bailles, Charlotte Manser, Chiara Sinigaglia and James Hammond, we organized the symposium Mechanical Forces in Evo-Devo with a great set of invited speakers and contributed talks. The idea was to highlight evo-devo research that considers the influence of tissue mechanics and the mechanosensing ability of cells on the evolution of developmental processes. We will post a report about the symposium in the near future.
In addition, I gave a talk on a secret side project that I’m working on: the EvoDevoBase. It’s the step beyond EvoDevo Papers; a comprehensive database with papers, journals, people, institutions, organisms, etc. , which can help us visualize historical trends, highlight underrepresented works and understand the evolution of the field in real time. I made the prototype available for the EED26 participants, collected a lot of feedback and will release a public version after incorporating the changes.
