Our proposal “Expansion and Modernization of the Image Database for Marine Biology – Cifonauta” submitted to the grant for the “Preservation and Curation of Collections and Cultural Heritage of the University of São Paulo” of the Pro-Rectory of Culture and University Extension (PRCEU 02/2022) was approved!
Cifonauta, an image database for marine biology, was launched more than ten years ago. Its interface, although beautiful, is not yet adapted for mobile devices and needs some updating. Moreover, we want to implement improvements to the backend to make it easier to upload and curate content.
Our project has three main objectives:
- Expanding the scope and diversity of images through a new administrative interface that will allow more collaborators and curators to contribute;
- Guarantee accessible and optimized navigation through a new, responsive layout for all devices;
- Increase the visibility and discovery rate of content by optimizing the database’s pages for search engines.
These updates will assure that Cifonauta expands its user base and sets itself as a platform that integrates the knowledge produced by universities to the public in an even more significant way.
