Later this year I’ll be joining the Comparative Embryology of Marine Invertebrates (CEMI) course as an instructor. It will be held from November 25th to December 8th, 2026, at CEBIMar–USP, São Sebastião, Brazil.
CEBIMar is where I did my master’s thesis about the embryonic development of a sea biscuit and where the Oceano and Cifonauta outreach projects were conceived. I’m looking forward to being back there to explore plankton samples, fertilize marine invertebrates and image beautiful embryos and larvae with the course participants.
Here’s the course description:
CEMI is a unique hands-on course focused on embryonic and larval development across marine animal phyla. Through lectures, laboratory activities, field collections, larval cultures, microscopy, and discussions of primary literature, participants will gain practical and theoretical experience in comparative embryology, larval biology, and evolutionary developmental biology. The course will be taught entirely in English (with some Portuguese and Spanish spoken unofficially) by an international team of instructors and is open to graduate students and advanced undergraduate students interested in zoology, developmental biology, evolution, marine biology, and related fields.
The application deadline is August 28th.
